My Picks of the Week! (June 12th)

Howdy, my Muses!

Hopefully these releases will give you a little pick-me-up on this Monday morning. In Adult books, the paperback release of Anna North's America Pacifica hits bookshelves and it sounds so intriguing! An 18 year old girl lives on one of the last habitable islands on earth after North America has succumbed to a second ice age! How did I miss this when it came out in hardback? The Taken by Vicki Petterson also sounds interesting-- I absolutely love the cover art!

In Young Adult, I am currently reading an ARC (Advance Reader Copy) of Lies Beneath by Anne Greenwood Brown that is coming out this week. I'm also looking forward to checking out My Life in Black and White by Natasha Friend and The Vindico by Welsey King. X-men meets the Breakfast Club? Hmm...

In Movies, I am sure everyone is excited for the release of Sherlock Holmes: Game of Shadows (and is the only movie that is being released in a blu-ray/dvd combo pack this week might I add!) and maybe even Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance. I am not a huge Holmes or Ghost Rider fan (I love the character, but do not like Nicolas Cage who plays Ghost Rider), so I am more interested in In Darkness, based on a true story about Jews that were hidden in the sewers during the time when the ghettos were being "liquidized." I am not a huge Tyler Perry fan, but for some reason Good Deeds has caught my attention and several customers at the movie store I work at part time told me it was actually good.

Lastly, in TV Series, there are a few ABC shows that are being released on dvd after being canceled this past season such as Missing starring Ashley Judd and GCB from the creators of Sex and the City. Fans of the long running show Entourage can add its last season to their collection with the release of season 8. I personally am excited for the release of The Tribe: Season 1, Part 2. I really hate that the seasons are being split up, but hey, as long as they keep coming out in a timely fashion, I will be a happy camper.

Until next week, Enjoy!

The Muses Movie of the Month! (May 2012)

The Muses Movie of the Month is a monthly showcase, created by The Muses Circle. Its purpose is to highlight one movie I have watched in the previous month! (Thank you, Book Whales, for the idea!)

----~~~---- ~~~~ ----~~~----

One of the best movies I've watched in May:
The Divide
Directed by: Xavier Gens
Starring: Michael Biehn, Lauren German, Milo Ventimiglia
Blu-ray-DVD Combo | DVD

Synopsis: Prepare yourself for the unrated movie experience that critics are calling one of the most graphic and extreme end-of-the-world shockers of our time: As nuclear warheads rain down on Manhattan, nine strangers -- Lauren German (Hostel: Part II), Michael Biehn (Aliens, Tombstone), Milo Ventimiglia (''Heroes''), Courtney B. Vance (''Law & Order: Criminal Intent''), Ivan Gonzalez, Michael Eklund (Hunt To Kill), Ashton Holmes (''Revenge'') and Rosanna Arquette (Pulp Fiction) -- barricade themselves in their apartment building's bunker-like basement controlled by the unhinged superintendent. But within days, supplies dwindle, tempers flare and the trapped survivors find themselves overcome by treachery, madness, sexual torment and savage violence. What follows is intense. It is raw. And it is all brutally, horrifyingly real. This is THE DIVIDE.

Why you need to watch The Divide: What is said in the summary above is NOT an exaggeration. It's raw and intense, with outstanding performances by veteran actor Michael Beihn and Milo Ventimiglia.

So what is your movie of the month?

Book of the Month: May 2012

Book of the Month is a monthly event, hosted by Book Whales. This is done to highlight one of the books read in the previous month.

---- ---- ---- ----

As most of you already know, I normally post book reviews on Wednesdays. I am currently in the middle of reading The Car Thief by Theodore Weesner and didn't want to have to rush through it in order to pump out a rushed, crappy review. So everyone can expect to read my thoughts about The Car Thief next Wednesday!

In the meantime, it's a new month, which means it's time to share with everyone my favorite book of May! Oh, and did I forget to mention that I ended up creating my own meme/banner for The Muses Movie-of-the-Month?! Everyone will be able to check it out on Saturday when it gets posted for the very first time!

Anyway, here is my choice for book of the month!

----- ----- ----- ----

One of the best books I've read in May is:

Zero by: Tom Leveen
Read My Review: HERE

Why You Need to Read Zero: Aside from the fact that it is the first book I've given a perfect 5 star rating to in quite some time, Zero has a little bit of something for everyone. If you like music and live bands, you will like this book. If you like art then you will like this book. If you like books that are edgy because of specific topics like self-esteem, alcoholism, dysfunctional families, etc., then you will like this book. If you like your romances steamy, then you will like this book. Need I say more? For a book blurb and my thoughts on Zero, check out my review by clicking the link above!

So what is YOUR Book-of-the-Month for May?

Stay tuned for Saturday when I unveil my new meme and banner for The Muses Movie-of-the-Month!

Congrats! I want to thank everyone who entered the giveaway. And if you entered the giveaway and also have a blog, I am still making my rounds to everyone's blog to follow you as well! I think for my next one I will be looking into using something like "rafflecopter". Now that I am getting more people entering my giveaways, I rather use a program that picks a person by random then me have to go through and pick someone. I hate having to do it myself because I always feel bad about the others who took time to enter! I wish I had a copy to give away to everyone! Then again, that would defeat the purpose, right?

Okay, now to "My Picks of the Week". If you haven't already noticed, June 5th is a HUGE date for releases. YOUNG ADULT

Devine Intervention
by: Martha Brockenbrough

There is a great legend of the guardian angel who traveled across time and space for the human girl he loved, slaying those who would threaten her with a gleaming sword made of heavenly light.

This is not that story.

Jerome Hancock is Heidi Devine's guardian angel. Sort of. He's more of an angel trainee, in heaven's soul-rehabilitation program for wayward teens. And he's just about to get kicked out for having too many absences and for violating too many of the Ten Commandments for the Dead.

Heidi, meanwhile, is a high school junior who dreams of being an artist, but has been drafted onto her basketball team because she's taller than many a grown man. For as long as she can remember, she's heard a voice in her head - one that sings Lynyrd Skynyrd, offers up bad advice, and yet is company during those hours she feels most alone.

When the unthinkable happens, these two lost souls must figure out where they went wrong and whether they can make things right before Heidi's time is up and her soul is lost forever.

Martha Brockenbrough's debut novel is hilarious, heartbreaking, and hopeful, with a sense of humor that's wicked as hell, and writing that's just heavenly.

Curb Your Enthusiasm:
Season 8

Starring: Larry David, Cheryl Hines

Candid, unsparing and self-deprecating, Curb Your Enthusiasm is driven by the off-kilter comic vision of Larry David, co-creator and co-executive producer of another lauded comedy series, Seinfeld. David’s HBO series blurs the lines between reality and fiction, as he and a cast of real and fictional characters are followed by a ubiquitous camera that chronicles the private, often banal world of a (relatively) public man. The series proves how seemingly trivial details of one’s day-to-day life – a trip to the grocery store, a remark at a dinner party, a fender-bender – can precipitate a “Murphy’s Law” chain of misfortune to hilarious effect. To keep the narrative spontaneous, Curb is shot without a script; cast members are given scene outlines and often improvise lines as they go.
