My Picks of the Week! (27th August 2013)

 Hello, Muses!

This post is late, so I will keep it brief. As August comes to a close, it sure is leaving with a bang! There are quite a few books coming out this week in both categories. In adult books, I highly recommend The Returned by Jason Mott. It's an unconventional zombie story that is currently being made into a tv series called Resurrection. In young adult, Jumped In by Patrick Flores-Scott is by far my favorite YA novel I've read this summer. A must read!

In movies, the two popular releases this week are Pain & Gain starring Mark Wahlberg and Dwayne Johnson and The Great Gatsby starring Leonardo DiCaprio. In tv series, Sons of Anarchy: Season 5 and The Walking Dead: Season 3 are finally here.

There are so many more releases this week, so enjoy!

ABOUT THE CREATOR OF RECTIFY

Ray McKinnon is mostly known as an actor, an underrated one at that! He's been in such shows as HBO's DEADWOOD and most recently FX's SONS OF ANARCHY. A man of a million faces, he can play just about anything and quite often I've been in the middle of watching a movie and suddenly that distinctive face and voice appears and I am like, "Oh WOW! I didn't know he was going to be in this!" RECTIFY is not Ray's first creation-- he actually won an Academy Award for writing and directing a 2001 short The Accountant!

WHY RECTIFY IS A MUST WATCH

RECTIFY is one of those shows that consumes you, that when an episode ends, you need to put the next one on to see what happens. I've only had that happen with a few shows, PRISON BREAK and SONS OF ANARCHY to name a couple. The acting talent is absolutely outstanding, with many faces that seem familiar but not so popular that it turns into an distraction (many times I've skipped over or watched a show solely because of an actor/actress alone). But my new obsession is Aden Young who plays the tormented Daniel. I am still blown away by his performance. Those sad, expressive eyes, that deep, soft southern drawl. Where the hell did this guy come from??? And let's not forget the story. Ray McKinnon has truly outdone himself. Many people, including myself, may think at first that the premise of this series can only work as a miniseries or one season tops. But somehow Ray weaves a story that most definitely can go on for at least another 2 or 3 seasons. Everything about this show blew me away. The acting, the story, the music-- I was an emotional mess by the end of episode 6 and days later I am still thinking about RECTIFY. If you want to watch something that is thought provoking, well acted, and addictive, give this show a try. You won't be disappointed!
