*BOOK BLITZ* In Your Corner (Redemption, #2) by: Sarah Castille

synopsis

A Publishers Weekly Best Summer Book 2014!

"You have to go. I won't be able to control myself. I've wanted you so bad for so long and after I've been in the cage...I can't think straight." He gives a guttural groan and his fist clenches on my hip.

Primitive. Primal. His need speaks to me. I tighten my grip on his neck and rock up to kiss him. He takes over. His kiss is hard and demanding.

"Mine." His voice is raw, savage and for a moment I truly believe he may lose control.

He rules in the ring

Two years ago, Jake and Amanda were going hot and heavy. But when Jake wanted more, Amanda walked away. Jake immersed himself in mixed martial arts, living life on the edge. But that didn't dull the pain of Amanda's rejection-until a chance encounter throws them together.

A high-powered lawyer, Amanda was a no-strings-attached kind of girl. But two years after her breakup with Jake, she still hasn't found anyone who gets her heart pumping the way he did. And then he shows up in her boardroom, hot as sin and needing help...

But can he rule her heart?

Jake is darker, sexier, and impossible to resist. As their chemistry builds, Amanda's not sure if she can stay in control, or if she's finally willing to let him claim her body and soul.

Excerpt

A few minutes later, we’re pressed up against the bar, a temporary wooden structure that looks like it could collapse at any moment. If not for Jake’s strength and determination, we would never have made it through the crowd. Even now he has one hand braced against the counter and his back to the heaving mass of people to give us breathing room.

The bartender shoves two cups of beer—the only item on offer—in our direction and I wrinkle my nose.

Jake laughs. “Still not a fan?”

“Not really. Especially if it’s warm, which I’m guessing it is.” I dip my finger in the cup and pop it in my mouth. The beer is indeed warm and very bitter, but the heat in Jake’s eyes as I slide my lips over my finger makes it easy to swallow.

“Again,” Jake murmurs, his voice husky and filled with sensual promise.

“You like that?”

“Yeah, baby, I do.” His hand tangles in my hair and he yanks my head back so hard my eyes tear. With his other hand around my waist, he pulls me tight against his body. I sense a shift in the crowd around us, and then people surge toward the stage, leaving us alone at the bar.

“You drive me fucking crazy.” With a nip, he parts my lips, and his tongue sweeps inside, searching, possessing, teasing, until my knees tremble and my body turns liquid.

“Remember that night we met?” He whispers against my lips. “We watched ourselves in the mirror, and you told me it was exciting to imagine we were in a crowd?”

“That was a good night.”

“The night I met you was the best night of my life.”

Before I can respond, he deepens the kiss. Tongues tangle, teeth clash, lips bruise. Lust, raw and ragged, tears through me, and I can only cling to his shoulders and hold on for the ride.

“We’re gonna do it now.” His voice deepens to a growl. “We’re gonna make that fantasy come true.”

excerpt

Chemistry

“Kole,” I whisper, and feel him shiver as I push my stomach up against his knees.

“Mia, if you don’t move back to your seat—”

“What, Kole? What will happen?” And when I call him that again his eyes shut, his legs tense up as I push up against them with my stomach. He opens his legs; his hand comes up from his thigh and moves to my lower back. His eyes move to mine as I slide in up to his chest. It’s so intimate, the way he’s touching me, and he smells so good. Slowly, his other hand moves up to cradle my neck.

“A kiss,” he whispers, pulling me closer. “Just a kiss and then we stop,” he says, his breath warm on my face. I nod my head as he bites his lip again, his gaze on my mouth. It feels like slow motion as he moves in, tilting his head to the left.

When his lips meet mine, they feel softer than I’d expected. His lips are wet and soft. Needy. They take and take, and I’m struggling to keep up with his pace. His tongue finds mine and the sensation tingles down my spine, all the way to my feet. I want more. I can’t get enough of his lips. His gifted tongue makes me feel like fire’s inside me forcing itself through the pores of my skin. And I know, until this moment, I’ve never truly been kissed. Not like this.

As we suckle each other’s lips, and moan, and lick, his hand moves down and cups me, his fingers moving in from behind to the hallow spot between my thighs. I push into his fingers, trying to find some relief from all of this physical teasing. He pulls me up onto his lap, legs spread, knees hitting the back seat. He finds my neck, nips and sucks—giving me a moment to catch my breath as he flicks his tongue all the way up to behind my ear. Under me, I feel his length filling out, trying to reach me through our clothes. My lips feel swollen and raw as the air inside the car starts to remind me his mouth has just been there.

Possessively, he moves his lips down my chest until he reaches the curve of my cleavage. Then I feel teeth sinking into the soft flesh there. I gasp, shove both hands in his hair. My head flings backward. One of his hands is kneading and feeding me into his mouth. The other is still pushing against the seam in my jeans, forcing me to rock into his swollen length to ease the building pressure. The sounds I’m making sound foreign to me. Primal.

Then, he growls. His hands move up to the collar of my shirt. I feel pressure and hear a loud rip. When I look down, my shirt’s completely open and tattered. My bra is pushed down so the cup is lifting my left breast up and out.

Kolton pulls away, pushing me at the same time as if I’m something he doesn't’ want anymore. With his long fingers, he gently pulls my bra back up, covering my breast, and then hastily yanks the tattered seems of my shirt together. The look on his face is shock. Anger. Disgust.

“Kolton?” I ask. “What’s wrong?” He doesn’t answer me, and he won’t look at me, his chest is moving up and down as he’s trying to catch his breath. I touch my swollen lips, as my eyebrows furrow together. I move off of his lap and push my back into the corner of the seat, as far away from him as I can get.

Why is he ignoring me? Why is he so disgusted by me? The car stops, and I realize we’re at the Wilshire Thayer. Kolton rolls down the partition glass.

“Can you pull us into the garage?” he asks Devon, unable to mask the emotion in his voice.

“Sure thing,” Devon responds. I didn’t know there was a parking garage here. As Devon drives through the garage entrance and down under the building, I pull my knees up to my chest and squeeze my eyes shut.

I feel the car stop and then hear Kolton say, “Devon, can you go upstairs and get me a jacket for Mia?”

“Yes,” he says, as I open my eyes and watch Devon walk toward the elevator door. I’m shaking with adrenaline, breathless, still completely turned on, swollen and achy for him—which makes me seethe.

“I don’t want you getting out of the car with your shirt open like that,” Kolton says, his face is stone cold, and he’s now resting his knuckles on his lips. I don't respond. I hate him right now. I just want to be as far away from him as I can be. I contemplate just running out of the car, but I’m sure he’d chase me. It’d make it worse for me if we made a scene and someone took a picture or something.

No, he won’t chase me, I think, but I don’t want anyone to see me like this with my shirt ripped open, so I wait. Kolton adjusts himself in his pants. When I look down, he’s still obviously aroused, but why, then—why push me away? Did I do something wrong. That was the opposite of frigid. I’ve never felt like that before. Ever.

“Why did you want to kiss me?” he asks. He seems so genuine, but I hate him so I don’t answer. “Answer me.”

“I don’t know. You were talking about your mom—I.” I look down, confused.

“I went too far,” he whispers. “But this is not your fault.”

“You’re right. You went too far—and I want off your team next week.” To this, his eyes shut. I wipe a humiliated-tear from my cheek. The door opens and Devon hands Kolton a leather jacket from his room-sized closet collection.

I reach to take it, but Kolton moves his arm away so I can’t. “Just a minute,” he says, sliding forward and motioning for me to scoot my back away from the inside of the car.

“No.”

“Just—do what I say for once. They you can get away from me. Okay? Lean forward.”

When I do, I feel his warm breath as he wraps the jacket around my shoulders. I take a deep breath. It smells of him. Cologne, and Kolton. All man.

Gently, he coaxes me to put my arms in. It makes my heart ache. He’s so gentle with me, like I’m a porcelain doll with a hairline crack.

He cautiously moves my hair off my face and then pulls the length of my hair out of the back of the jacket. I watch his long fingers as he feeds the zipper in, moving it slowly up my front. I’m tingling and aching for him again. “I’ll think about your request,” he says, his voice soft, controlled. “But the team you’re on at the end of next week will be up to me.”

“I’m moving out of your apartment,” I say. I don’t know where I’m going, but I’m not staying here under his control anymore.

“What about Riley?” he asks. “Deloris is my employee and she’s going to take care of Riley in my apartment.” He knows I have nothing. I can’t really leave. He knows I need him.

“It’s just a few more weeks until I go back to Sac. What are you going to do then?” His jaw twitches and he glares at me.

“You’ll have to come back. It’s just a few months off. Deloris will be with you.” But he looks worried about it.

“I will never trust you, Kolton. Never,” I say, and watch his face change in front of me. I know that hurts him. “Because you’re an asshole. A controlling asshole,” I say, forcing myself away from the heat of his body. I purposely sever the draw of my soul to his, find the door handle, and bolt out. My heels clicking as I run atop the concrete floor of the parking garage. I’m frantically tapping the button for the elevator when I hear him approaching me from behind.

I keep my back to him. When the doors open, I step inside. As the doors are closing behind me, I turn and catch a glimpse of Kolton standing there, helplessly watching me leave. The look on his face is pure conflict, pain, and remorse.

The doors press together, closing him out, and I’m pulled upward. What have we done? I’m drenched in his scent, lips swollen and body singing from his hands having been all over me. Do I even want to try and understand him when I can barely understand myself? He’ll burn me. Consume me. I know I have to protect myself. But with every interaction, he’s making that harder to do.

Genre: Urban Paranormal-Fantasy Romance

Release Date: 5th June 2014

teaser excerpt

“Any leads?”

“Not since the cook from The Phoenix turned out to be a dead end. Literally. Max and I remained at the club after it closed for the night and found him, or rather, what was left of him. He lay in a pool of his own bile and blood behind a garbage bin. Deep bruises on his upper arms. Hamstrings and Achilles tendons sliced through. Disemboweled. Nearly beheaded. The stench of river rat was all over him. We suspect it was Clay and his buddies, but it could have easily been random and unrelated. He was also missing his wallet and his genitals.”

Franklin winced and covered his groin with his hand. “Fuck me sideways! Leave a bloke some dignity. Surely you don’t believe it was some nutter collecting fuzzy bollocks? There were too many rats in The Phoenix for it to be unrelated.”

“Correct, I don’t. I believe the rats are a key part of this, whatever this is. They saw us in the club and tipped off Clay. That had to be how he knew to come back for the cook. He then eliminated a potential liability. What I don’t know is what they hope to gain from all this.”

“What does the Den Master say? He stands to take a financial hit to his businesses should your agreement turn sour.”

“He claims ignorance of their encroachment, and his fear encourages me to believe him. We could be dealing with a splinter group, though I don’t know what purpose they’d have.”

“I’ll see if anyone knows of a bruiser going by that name, though it’ll be hard without a description. Are we assuming he’s a shifter?”

“For now.”

Franklin nodded. “I’ll do what I can. The rats are a harder thing to question them about. I’ll ask about new gangs coming in from the river. They seem the type to fight over turf and make it bloody. Maybe we’ll get lucky.”

“Just be careful. The rats know you and know you work for me. If they’re striking at me, they may choose to go through you. I’d rather you get a choice about turning, son.”

“I’ll watch my arse, sir. Being a rat ain’t my idea of a good time. Don’t care for cheese. Anything else?”

“In her delirium, Miss Olivia mentioned two names: Percival, whom she called uncle, and someone she simply called Loomis. I assume it is a surname.”

“I can ask around. If she’s American, it’s unlikely anyone here’ll know her or her uncle.”

“Perhaps, but it can’t hurt to ask. I’m running out of options. Until she’s willing to provide me with details, I’m operating under the assumption she was being held somewhere in the neighborhood. She couldn’t have been able to run very far in her condition.” He reached into his pocket, pulled out a money clip, and tossed it to the young man. “A little something to help your friends’ memories. No.” Draike shook his head when Franklin tried to return it. “I’d rather they earn some money for a bit of talking than thieving. Safer for them, better for me.”

“Not everyone’ll want to take it, but I’ve still got the lightest fingers in the district. It’ll end up in their pockets one way or another.” Franklin closed his right hand around the money clip, tapped his fist with his left, and then opened them both to show they were empty.

“Whatever works, lad. I need you to get on this as soon as you can. Barring a downturn in Miss Olivia’s recovery, I’m going out tonight to see if Marko and the lads have any further information.”

“I’ll see what I can get during the day, but most of the guys won’t hit the pavement until later tonight. I’ll let you know what I find out, if anything.”

“Thank you, Franklin.”

Draike watched the boy leave the study then returned to his chair and his silent study of the Commons. No one disappeared without a trace, yet there had been no sign of any of the boys since they went missing. Two days after he discovered The Phoenix’s murdered cook and gained a guest, he paid a visit to the rat’s Den Master. Under a threat of expulsion from the fox’s protection, he was quick to cooperate in the investigation. They spent most of the night searching questionable cargo containers and interrogating shady barge captains. Nothing had surfaced as of yet. Though it was impossible, the boys had vanished.

Meanwhile, Maximus looked into the influx of the vermin gangs into his section of Draike’s territory. Since they squatted in the vampire’s buildings, it was a legitimate concern. He barely tolerated it when his own kind chose to squat instead of going through proper channels. Few would find it surprising if he aggressively pursued a nest of rats doing the same.

Lastly, there was the enigma of his current houseguest, Olivia. She was mysterious, lovely, and entirely too appealing. There was something about her unique scent, a spiciness interwoven with the earthy scent of female human, which intrigued and enticed his vulpine form unlike any other. It was more than mere pity for her circumstances, or even physical attraction for her understated beauty. There was just something about her that drew him.

Her injuries infuriated him to a surprising degree. He had seen others, mostly females but some males, treated poorly during his lifetime. After years on the streets as a child, and later as an adult once he’d joined the Hunters, he had seen the many and inventive ways humans and nonhumans alike could hurt one another. He had been moved to anger by the unfortunates’ plights and torn apart the perpetrators with his fangs and claws, glad to watch their blood flow into the gutter.

This level of pure, raging fury was different. The wounds inflicted upon Olivia brought out his most protective instincts. Protective and predatory. It had been too long since he’d had a proper hunt, and this was unlike any other. His prey would suffer for laying a hand on his mate.

His mate?

Draike bypassed the cooling cup of coffee and grabbed the decanter of brandy and an empty glass. Pouring a generous measure, he tossed back half of the smooth, amber spirits.

Mate? He paced the small room. His claws tapped the crystal glass. A low growl rumbled in his chest.

Mate? He stared across the park as he turned the word over in his head. Her scent tempted and intrigued him, but he didn’t know her. Their interests and personalities could clash. They were from different countries. There was a good chance she would return to the United States once she healed. He drained the glass and suppressed a bark of protest. His fox wanted her stay. If he was honest, so did he...

about the author

Elaina Roberts grew up in the wilds of Alabama, wearing garments sewn of squirrel hides. She saw her first motorized vehicle at age ten and was amazed and terrified at the giant, iron behemoth that ate and spat out people with impunity. She also makes up a lot of stuff, which propelled her to become an author.

Truthfully, though, Elaina did grow up in a rural area just outside the city limits of a small Alabama town. She spent many long afternoons running through untamed woodlands, even if she doesn’t care for squirrel regardless of how you cook it. As the youngest of four, there were few luxuries purchased by her textile factory parents, but they provided her with something even better: an intense love of reading. Her early loves were the mysteries of Earle Stanley Gardner, the fantastic worlds of Edgar Rice Burroughs, and the action-packed adventures of Don Pendleton. When she discovered romance, she sought books that combined the genres she already loved with this new promise of happily ever after. Not long afterwards, she began her own tentative steps into writing.

Today, she writes Urban Fantasy with a romantic flair, the genre guaranteed to offer her the greatest opportunity of creating fantastic words of action, adventure, and mystery, coupled with romance’s heart-lifting happily ever after.

Excerpt...Teaser

She keeps talking, but I don’t hear a thing she says because when she walks around the island, I see what she is wearing. She dressed is some sort of wrap around black dress that hits her knees. The shoes are bright pink with bows on the back and make her legs look a mile long. My dick jumps in my jeans and I know we’re going to be late to her parent’s house.

I stalk to her and pull her into me until our mouths crash together. My hands rub up her sides dragging the material of her dress with them. She whimpers against me and tightens her arms around my neck. I move one hand down and feel her bare ass.

“Babe, why is your ass bare?”

“I’m wearing a thong.”

Holy Mother of God. I’m not going to make it to the bedroom. “Your choice counter or wall?”

I slowly walk in the direction of the noise. I have no idea why, snooping didn't exactly do me any favors the last time. There are a few more doors down here, one door is slightly open and I can tell it's a pool room. There are three pool tables spread around and I find the reason behind the noise.

I've only ever been with one man at a time, in fact I've only ever been with douche-bag, but this girl has three.

My brain races with the possibilities of what three men could do to my body.  After reading so many erotica books I’ve certainly fantasized about the things I’ve read, but it’s nothing compared to actually seeing it happen right in front of you.  Where I’m standing is dark, so even if they look up… they won’t be able to see me.  At least I hope not!

The woman is naked, legs spread wide and laying on her back on the table.  One man has his head buried between her thighs, another thrusting his cock deep in her mouth at the edge of the table, and the third is licking her nipples from the other side.

The sight is highly erotic and I'm immediately turned on. My eyes widen when they stop, flipping the girl over, dragging her down the table so one of the men can sit at its edge with her straddling his lap. The others take their positions, one behind her, the other standing above them all, giving the girl perfect access to his hard cock. Her moan fills the room as the three enter her, bumping and thrusting. I fight my own hands, biting on my lip. I am so turned on right now, I don't know what to do with myself. I think about running back to my room and taking care of myself, but I can't turn my eyes away from the scene acting out in front of me.

I catch movement to my side, shocked to see Angel glaring at me. "Like what you see?"

I stare wide eyed, I don't know what to say. I'm embarrassed he's caught me watching. He curses, looking back to the foursome.  The girl’s moaning becomes louder and I step back. I'm still turned on, my underwear is soaked, even though I'm ashamed at being caught watching. Angel looks at me, snickering before storming into the room. What the fuck is he doing?

Jill Patten was born a Yankee, but raised a southerner. She lives in the small town of Mayberry, North Carolina which was made famous by a popular TV show back in the sixties. (Maybe there will one day be a statue of her at the end of Main Street. Ha! A girl can dream, right?)

Jill has always loved to read, even during reading labs in middle school for reading comprehension. Judy Blume was her first author she hero-worshipped, maturing to revere the works of Stephen King. With all the fantastic authors today, she simply cannot choose a favorite. Her taste is very eclectic and she loves almost all genres. When she's not captivated by her fictional characters, she spends time with her sweet husband and two beautiful children.

Music is her muse. Jill also loves elephants, sarcasm, and anything made with sugar, especially sweet tea. She enjoys all things rude and crude and laughs at stuff she probably shouldn't. She has been accused of being bossy a time or two, but doesn't really see it herself.

All in all, Jill is just a small town girl in this great big world trying to enable your book addiction.

Oh, and if you read her book, please leave her a review - good or bad, she'll love you forever.
